I had to ponder longer than usual over a handful of clues – notably the crossing 7d and 12a – so I’ve added an extra half-star for difficulty, although in retrospect nothing seemed unusually tough… Great fun to solve, with a fair distribution of clues of varying difficulty, plenty of examples of skilfully disguising the line between definition and wordplay, and four clues with amusingly topical surfaces.
